Hi Guys,

Quick update on the two Ergomo's that I know about that were running at Sabie this weekend-  Both worked perfectly through all of the mud and rocks.  I have now used my Ergomo for 2 multi day mountain bike events and it has worked without hassle on both of them.  Couple of things:

- I am going to try and move the cable that runs from the bb to the computer to the top of the downtube rather then the bottom to better protect it from rocks.

- Despite claims on battery life, I only ever seem to get 8-10 hrs out of it assuming I dont use the backlight (then it is more like 6hrs).

- Still looking for a long lasting solution to securing the cable as cable ties can squash it (happened to my first unit) and tape can come undone if you use a power washer to clean the bike....

For cables running along the bottom of the downtube I usually cut a 2cm wide strip of duct tape the same as the frame colour.  I also tape the speed sensor and bb wire together with electrical type, which then goes under the duct tape.  To be really secure, put cable ties on either end of the duct tape strip.  You don't have to tighten them so much that they pich the cable because it is already held in place.

Hey Bruce,

Good to meet you the other day.

Thats how my cables are currently routed- works well so far and I will leave it that way on my road bike.

Problem is on the MTB, every now and then I get some big smacks just above the bb from rocks kicked up by the front wheel (enough to dent my previous Ali frame).  Sooner or later one of these is going to damage the cable.

If I recall the sensor on Yolanda Speedy's mountainbike SRM got knocked off by a rock doing the same thing.

So, how was the race?  Did your legs recover okay?

I think you are going to have to put the cable along the top of the downtube.  Alternatively buy some of those plastic liners that people put in their tyres to prevent punctures and tape it over the wires.

One of the big problems with the ergomo is that if the wires get damaged the bb has to be sent in for repair - hopefully they sort this problem out soon.

cool idea on a strip of tyre liner!

race went okay, my legs felt brilliant (I am sure the compression pants work), my partner was suffering! We ended up deciding not to start stage 3 as the mud looked like hell.  Didnt seem right to do stage 4 after not starting 3 (also I was already on the road home).
