road bike for cross training

Hi guys new to the forums.

My son who is 14 has stopped offroad racing and has started mb riding he thoroughly enjoys the sport.

I recentley purchased him a giant with all sram components fitted from xo down to x7. He now would like a road bike to cross train

What would be your guys suggestions I would really appreciate any feedback ask me about a yz85 or 125 I could help you there but

Bicycles are another story .
