I need some help please! I've been to 4 shops looking to buy a new road bike. Two said I must get a medium, the other two said I need a large! I'm 1,80 meters tall and I used to ride a 57cm frame years ago. Any advice on which size I should get?

Height rarely tells you frame size.  Inseam and torso length matter much more.  Your head might be very big Tongue  So start by writing those measurements down.

You need to fit.  In cycling gear.  You don't buy shoes without

trying them (with socks?)  Same with a bike.  Get both sizes set up,

and ride them round the block (at least.)  If the shop won't help you, go to the next shop.

The following are general questions you should ask yourself.  A good bike shop will ask them.

You need to know what kind of frame.  Large in a Giant isn't necessarily the same as large in a Raleigh.  For Giant, size 57 is a medium or a medium-long (http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-GB/technology/compactroad_new/)

What's more, size will matter on whether you want to commute, or race criteriums.  What do you plan to do with it?  For how long?

How are your biomechanics?  Is your back flexible?  Do you pedal toe or heel down?  If you don't know ask a physio.

What is your inseam? Do you have long arms? Long torso? What is your riding style? Flexible? What bikes are we talking about? Point is, it is nigh impossible to prescribe a frame to you knowing next to nothing about you! Wink

I'm a firm believer in a "as small as possible" frame, but I know other people disagree. The important measurement is top tube length, as saddle height is easily adjustable. The bottom line is - try it out, if at all possible. It must be comfortable, otherwise you are probably not going to ride it!

I'm not sure about my measurements  but when I bought my 57cm they measured my inseam. Arms/torso average. The bike is a Merida 904.

Thanks for the advice so far.
