Heritage Hill Relay Race

I've done this race yesterday in a two man team with my son. Some comments:

1. Very nice format- almost like formula 1 with the teams lining the road

2. Small field - I would guess less than 75 in the field

3. Some fierce racing between the race snakes with the top mixed team giving all but the winning mens team carrots.

4. OK course - mostly gravel road next to public road and some jeep track - 7 odd km per round.

5. Price (R400 plus R100 for entry on the day) a rip-off, even with a complimentary boerie.

6. Race was well organized

 

I'm wondering, is the race so small because it is so expensive or is it so expensive because it is a small race?

I also think it was a rip off. We competed in a mixed team and finished 12 laps - the mens team which came third finished only 11 laps but they qualified to recieve a prize and we didn't because there was apparently not enough teams in our category.How is this our problem if there are not enough entries? I think we did well and they did not even bother to mention us - anyway we left there discouraged and not "lus" to do the event again.

The prize giving was a bit random!

 

Initially there was only going to be a prize for "most laps by a team" and "fastest lap" but the organisers scrambled around and added the mixed cat, fastest ladies lap and a few other prizes so big up to them.

 

I do agree with you though - we all enjoy our 15 minutes of fame and the organisers could have at least mentioned the top 3 teams in each category (even if there was no prize).

 

I really enjoyed the "slowest lap" and "least laps" prize - it was a fun event and joker prizes added to the spirit...
