I am of the humble opinion that most triathletes start tapering unnecessarily soon.

For IMSA I am planning on training normal until 4 days before 22 April.

But what do the hotshots say?

I'm not the same caliber (IMSA) but for the sprint series stuff/Xterra I taper max 2 days before.

And then enjoy the other hot topic, carbo loading, for the 2 days!! :thumbup:

 

But I'm no expert, not even very serious..... :whistling:

Its ususally much longer, my longest run was 5 weeks, cycle 4 and swim 3 weeks before Ironman. If its your first one, its a loooonnnggg day, so taper 2-3 weeks depending on your fitness. Even 4...

I think 4 days is not enough, keep the legs ticking over for last 2 weeks with very short distances. your body will hate you on race day with 4 days rest. I would rather under train than over train
