  1. I am on my third pair of Zoomflys and average about 650-700km on a pair
  2. I first need to get 70.3 EL out of the way in 2 weeks, then it is full focus on IM
  3. I took a break from it last year, so decided to give a go again. This week is still a hard and long training week, but from next week slowly starting to decrease volumes
  4. Its very quite here given how close we are to EL. How is everyone's training going?
  5. Weird how things work out sometimes. Last year I decided to take a break from triathlon in 2019 and make Comrades 2019 my main goal and I started training hard. Second week in January I stepped into a pot hole while running. Ligament damage. 8 weeks without running, so the end of my Comrades goal. I obviously was very negative about this. I decided I would enter for 70.3 Durban. Did lots of cycling, swimming, strength work while not being able to run. And then got running going when ankle healed. Body felt in great shape by 70.3 Durban time. Did the race and qualified for 70.3 Worlds in Nice in September. So as you said don't let injuries get you down
  6. My Nike Zoom Fly Flyknit's are nearing the end of their lifespan. I cannot seem to find any online. Sportsmans Warehouse has, but not my number. Does anyone know where I can find these guys. I have found them brilliant running shoes and do not want to switch back to the Pegasus at this point.
  7. How long until you are running again? I sprained my ankle last week, stepping into a pot hole. 3-4 weeks without running. So lots of swimming and strength training in my future
  8. I haven't posted here in a while. Last couple of seasons Ironman/70.3 was my main focus. This year I decided its time to tick that Comrades box. But since July I have been struggling with injuries. Before these injuries, I have had no injuries for probably 3 years+. First I injured a tendon in my foot, which took about 2 months to heal. Now my ITB started with issues. So I have lost about 2.5 half months' run training (still keeping swimming and cycling going). The problem is, I have Soweto marathon coming up at the beginning of November and I am seriously undertrained. My fitness is fine, but time on legs not so much. Time goals have gone out the window. I am now considering if its actually worth doing it and risking more injuries by going into a marathon underprepared.

  10. Prep has gone well. Had the flu 2 weeks ago, but I think it gave my body a much needed break from training after IMSA. Rather undertrained and well rested than overtrained and tired. Looking forward to a good time and some summer days. Drafting should be better given the new loops. To be honest I don't give it much thought. I focus on my own race and those who want to cheat, well go for it.
  11. 3000m swim today, 5hr bike tomorrow and 2.5 run on Sunday. Next week is a recovery week. I have learned that recovery is as important as training when you hit 40.

We did an 80 yesterday and today. At about 60k today my bum had enough. Legs felt ok, but bum not so much. We have decided to skip the rest in between to really simulate the 3 days. Tomorrow we are only doing 50k. So let's see how the legs feel tomorrow. Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk

So I was offered a spot by a friend that cannot make it anymore about 2 weeks ago. I obviously took it. I have been focusing on running the past 3 months with two or so road cycles every week. So needless to say I am worried that this is going to be a sufferfest of note. I spent last weekend in Lesotho. Much to advanced for my technical skills, but I managed most the climbs reasonably well. I am fit, but clearly under trained in terms kms and MTB skills. How difficult is it going to be to get through the 3 days?
  15. I took of from running, stretched, did functional strength exercises etc over the past 2-3 weeks and my ITB is much better, but I have lost about 2 months training and have decided to call it quits and not do Two Oceans. I am sure I will be able to push through on the day, but am worried that it would just make it worse and derail the rest of my season. All is not lost as I now have a decent base to work from going forward. Time to shift my focus to triathlon training.
  16. Sorry didn't see your post It is a deep dull pain at the side of my leg on the ITB band, about 10 cm up from the knee. The longer I run the more the pain until its gets to a point where is not possible. The pain spreads to the lower part the ITB and quad.
  17. Thanks guys. I was leaning towards the Sesta, mainly due to the carbon frame.
  18. Yip my physio gave me some exercises to do, after dishing out the pain this morning, with a few hundred needles directly into the ITB and glutes.
  19. Yes I think that is good advice. I am going to rest the two weeks and then make a call and maybe get some swim training in.
  20. I have been out of MTBing for a while, focusing on triathlon over the last 6 years or so. I am now in the market for a new MTB: full suspension for doing mostly stage races. My LBS has the following options in the price bracket I am looking at: Silverback Sesta Comp and Trek Top Fuel 8, both will be converted to 1x11 at about the same cost. http://silverbacklab.com/bike/mountain/sesta-comp/ https://www.trekbikes.com/za/en_ZA/bikes/mountain-bikes/cross-country-mountain-bikes/top-fuel/top-fuel-8/p/2136600-2017/ With my limited knowledge the pros and cons are: SB has a carbon frame, Trek alu, but does have a lifetime warranty SB obviously lighter, probably about 1-1.5kgs Trek's front and rear suspension is better than SB For the rest of the components I need some help in deciding which trumps the other.
  21. This will be my first OMTOM. I have done 340km since January and my longest was a marathon and I have done about 4 x 25 km+ long runs
