Can someone help...Avalanche GT1.0 or Scott 50 reflex?

I am in the process of buying my very first MTB and am torn between two very good brands, both are ladies smalls and in excellent condition. I am new to the sizing of MTB's.I am a female,1.62m tall

The first one is is an Avalanche GT 1.0, 2006 model with 27 gears with shimano deore XT components. There is not much space between bar and crotch area and seat is parallel to handle bars at the moment and is too high for me. I would need to cut the seat down to be able to sit comfortablly on the bike as the bottle rack housing is preventing me from lowering the seat any further. Bike is in an excellent condition and een serviced regularly. Comes comes with cleat peddles, shoes, speedometerand pump. Price R2700.

Second option is a Scott reflex 50 2010 model with 24 gears, also shimano deore components. Difference here is that there is much more space between bar and my crotch area and i feel alot more comfy on bike standing. Seat easily adjustable. Bike has done 150km and been serviced regularly and also in excellent condition. Comes with pump only. Price R1750.

Anyone got any advise or thoughts to share on theses two brands? I am new to MTB and dont know enough to decide. The size aspect on the avalanche gt is worrying me but everybody says its a better bike all in all.

Go for the Scott.

newer bike, and cheaper. Once you get into the sport and feel you need to improve on components and frame etc, then spend the money.

No point getting the GT if you not comfortable.

Agreed, feeling comfortable is important, and its a newer bike.

The size is the main thing. I would not take the GT because of the size. There should however be a XT specked bike available in a small.
