My current set of tyres are in need of replacement (back tread badly worn) but i want to wait till before sani to choose replacements. I have a set of small block eights that have been in storage in our storage room for about the last 2 years. I though they would be quite good to use for the notties himeville on saturday.

I have had a look at them and they look fine - my question is should they be alright to use if they have been stored properly in good conditions - or should i rather just go get some new ones. Last thing i want is the sidewall to crumble or something like that

I reckon if they have been stored out of the sunlight they should be fine. I think the shelf life of vehicle tyres is in the order of 10 years before they reccomend you do not use them, so even if the rubber is only half as good, a storage life of 5 years should be OK ?

I just put on a UST Maxxi Ignitor that I had stored for about 2 years, seated first time and keeping its pressure well.

Take the tyre, bend it a bit especially around the sidewalls. If there are cracks then you probably need new ones but if everything looks fine then it won't suddenly develop problems on the trail either.
