  1. First think what price you would be happy to go with. Then decide if it is worth keeping the bike for that amount. I sold my old hardtail this weekend. The bike has brought many happy memories and I think it was a very nice bike to start with. It still had VBrakes and even though the frame can take disk brakes, the wheels can not. The frame is really nice though, a silver Merida Matts. The old suntour fork is in a bad condition and needs to be replaced. However the stem, wheels and tyres are quite good and was replaced as part of the sale. I got R2500 for this bike after throwing in extra tyres, hanger replacement and tyre liners. I think this was a fair price, however giving "free" stuff with the bike helped a lot with the sale. Using this sale as a guide, personally I think R3k is definitely reachable. Maybe the frame isnt the best but unless it really weighs a ton then it will still be seen as good by the majority of buyers in this bracket. Same goes for the wheels and you actually have disk brakes which counts a lot. The other option. If you still have your old components then you can always swap them back and sell the bike for a real bargain. Then sell your remaining components separately. The bars, stem, brakes and shifters, seat and post all sounds quite good and should fetch a fair price. The fork, if in a good condition, is also better than many forks you would get on an entry level bike, I would not sell the fork separately though.
  2. Dont listen to the bike shops. If its got two wheels you can ride it. Sure it might be better to get a xc/trail specific bike later on but just for casual riding for now this is 100%. For the seatpost, you need to make sure that a big enough part of the post is inside the frame. Theres gonna be a limit indicator, make sure you dont extend beyond this or you might damage the frame.
  3. The ranger does not know what he/she is talking about. Night riding allowed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with valid permit minimum 3 riders per group. Daytime riding hours: In winter exit at 18:00. In summer exit at 20:30. I have the Tokai/Silvermine brochure in my desk drawer.
  4. I think a big reason why there is crime now is because there is currently nobody at the gate to check permits / keep an eye on the cars. Besides, the guardhouse is also pointing in the wrong direction. How it is possible to break into cars while there is people in the parking area is also difficult to understand. I can only think that the thieves have some silent method to break the glass and get inside without anyone noticing. All we ourselves can do is keeping an eye out when returning to the parking lot after their ride for suspicious activity. Unfortunately crime is a part of living in South Africa and it is going to get much worse in future.
  5. Get a converter for your presta valves to shraeder. The presta valves are going to bend and break at some stage if you use a hand pump. co2 bombs are great to have as a backup carry atleast 2. Especially if you have tubeless wheels. But you still need a good pump in your camelback as well!
  6. Its not as self cleaning as the rock&roll but to be honest this isnt such a big problem for me except when Ive been riding in extremely muddy conditions. Then I clean the chain thoroughly myself anyway. One thing I hate about rock@roll is that the nozzle always seems to block up with the wax component at some point. Usually when you want to apply some right before a ride. The purple extreme seems to last longer and kind of sticks to the chain. Easier to apply and last long in both dry and muddy condition without causing a lot of buildup. But yeah rock and roll isnt bad just not the best imho.
  7. Olympic used to have. I prefer Purple Extreme nowadays though.
  8. Also remember it is also the Table mountain membership drive this Sunday which I think is another important event to participate in.
  9. Lol you were right about the berm it should have been wider Trail is riding quite well though. Im not fit enough to ride it full speed yet but hopefully that changes in the coming weeks. Sun will hopefully stick to the sky for a bit longer too
  10. Sad to say but these scams are just going to get worse and much more frequent in future. The most recent thing I get now is a call from an automated system. I answer the phone and then suddenly this pre-recorded voice starts selling a scam/product or something else. Or alternatively I answer and the other end disconnect immediately. All these are unavoidable ways in which numbers can be collected as future scam targets automatically.

  12. Not much to add here except that all the negativity here is like you said a disgrace. Not like any of the complainers will do something out of there own but rather sit back behind their desks insulting people that actually are trying to make a difference. They were actually shown much more respect than deserved I for one are really glad these people are not representatives of tokai mountain bikers because that would be a disaster for the rest. Best maybe is for them to ride somewhere else or try another sport/activity for a while where things are more to their liking. Mountain biking is great, its awesome, but there is actually a lot of other great things out there as well.
  13. Cant really say I find the trails to be as bad as described here. Sure a couple of places need some work but nothing that will prevent me from riding.
  14. Wow this sounds horrific! Got chills just reading it. All the best and please keep us updated with her progress.
  15. Yeah a couple of 1000 dollars would cheer them up and help bring closure im sure...
