Hi all

Had to stop playing rugby due to injuries, so i have started doing triathlons as a way to stay fit and satisfy my competitive nature. Did my first 70.3 in Jan on a Giant OCR3, that was a hand-me-down from my GF's dad, but now i wanna have a crack at full IM next year, so i am looking to get myself kitted. Upgrading my bike is by far the most expensive bit, so any and all input i can get, will be greatly appreciated.

I have been looking at getting a Felt B12/16, as they seem to be the best full carbon bikes available in my, limited, price range. With this in mind, here are my questions:

  • what are your thoughts on Felt B12/16?
  • road bike with clip-on bars or tri bike?
  • 2nd hand or new?
  • if 2nd hand, how old is too old?
  • buy a complete bike or a frame and build it up?
  • if i am gonna build up, what should i look out for? eg. parts that fit a normal bike, but not a tri bike
  • i ride a size 56, what size wheels should i be looking for?

Any answers or additional input will be greatly appreciated.

Hi French

First of all, what is your budget?

Hi

Looking to spend 10-17k, depending on model year and condition.

I also had a look at similar posts and realised that, given that wanna also do the odd road race - 94.7, Argus, etc - I should maybe look at getting a Felt AR4/5 and then just add tribars. Thoughts?
