Hi All

Please can you give me advice, I am looking for a mtb preferably a womens one, and am looking to spend about R7k.

I am a beginner, and names are been given to me and to say the least I am lost, I am not sure what is good and what isnt?

I do like the Merida Juliet 500d, but then get told there are not any around? Other names given are Silverback, Giant, etc.

Best value for around R7k last time I checked, keeping in mind that you're looking for something for a lady, would be the Scott Aspect 10.

Lightest in that range and most likely best specced. The sales guys talk about the Scott frames as being Unisex.

My sister and her husband each have one of those, and both of them are happy as can be.

Just my 2c of advice; if stuck between deciding between two sizes, go for the smaller one. The smaller bike is easier to control, or so says my girlfriend after going from a medium frame to a small.

The Scott Aspect 10 is quite well specced, but the Scott Scale range is a lighter frame. I think you can get a scale for sub R7k, with similar components to the Aspect

Women's specific bikes generally cost more for little extra. Go to a decent bike shop, get fitted, then look for a bike that suits your measurements and pocket. You may have to swap out the stem, bars and/or seat for something that fits you better, but a decent bike shop will do this for you at minimal (if any) extra charge - unless the new bit is an upgrade of course.
