As Far as I know this is the route:

All three stages end on the waterfall trail at the river bridge at the end of the old gravity trail. ...

Stage 1 - riders leave Giba Cafe ... ride out through the gorge to the Wooden Hut ... Stage 1 would run down the road through the gorge, under the freeway, then at the stat of mainline it accesses the track used for your XCO that goes next to the dirt road (you ride this track backwards all the way to the RFL Bridge at the beginning of the switchbacks on Jethros. Turn right drop down onto the dirt road, UP the dirt road for 50m and left into the access link that takes you to half way along "Upper Waterfall" (sorry i forgot its new name) ... ride the lower switchback section on Upper Waterfall and then turn right down the straight link path to the finish at the bridge on the Waterfall Trail.

Stage 2 - riders leave the finish of stage 1 ... ride back towards the cafe along the Waterfall trail ... turn right over the concrete river bridge, right past the Horse Place, along Horse Pat Way and left onto Nicks new trail that takes you up to the top of Gravity. The start for stage 2 would be on the small hill above the Canyon Quarry entrance. Stage 2 then uses the top trail at the start of gravity, through the new access gate, RIGHT onto the top Bizhub trail ... back onto the old Gravity in the trees, right over the Tabletops, then STRAIGHT down the old Gravity to the base of the hill and over the wooden bridge to the finish of stage 2 on the Waterfall Trail.

Stage 3 - riders leave the finish of stage 2 ... ride up the Waterfall trail to the tar strips ... up the tar strips and onto Shaya Moya ... Stage 3 starts at the tree at the top of Shaya Moyas Climb where the single track starts. Stage 3 uses all of shaya moya and can either use the Newtrail that goes off shaya moya or as i would do just go straight down onto the lower saya moya trail and along the river, accross the bridge to the finish.

Stage 1 is then 4km long with a descent of 260m and climbs of 70m

Stage 2 is 3.94km long with a descent of 295m and climbing of 175m (not sure exactly how accurate the climbs data is but anyway)

Stage 3 (if you use old Shaya Moya and the lower trail) ... is 2.27km long with a descent of 159m and climbs of 58m

You can enter on ROAG for the Enduro Event .... registration for the DH will be on the Sunday at Giba.

The Enduro will have TONS of lucky Draw prizes as well as Cash Prizes for the Top 3 Male and Female finishers.

Also there is going to be a big Braai etc going on at the Giba Cafe for the Enduro Prizegiving (so Jason told me yesterday) so it should be a really cool Vibe the whole weekend.

Does anyone practice at Giba during the week?

I am coming down on Sunday to Durban for a week (Missing Worlds View National unfortunately though  )

Trying to decide what bike to bring, would love to bring my DH bike if anyone wants to meet at Giba for a ride or 2 during the week.

From Jason @ Giba Gorge

Giba Grabity Enduro 7th July 2012

The event you have all been waiting for.. The Giba Gravity Enduro!

Gravity Enduro is a new cycling discipline currently taking off overseas, and was recently piloted at Cascades and Karkloof with very positive feedback. Giba is hosting the third event of this kind in South Africa and although not part of any series, follows the same rules as the previous two events.

Gravity Enduro is not a cross country or downhill competition but rather consists of timed stages, with the main rule being that the finish is significantly lower then the start. As this discipline is new, the event organisers are still trying different things to determine what works. Currently stages are suitable to most riders and are not as technical like downhill racing, and as such suit standard mtb cross country bikes or trail bikes.

  • The Giba Gravity Enduro will have 3 timed stages.
  • There will be transfer stages where riders need to ride their bikes to the start of the timed downhill stages.
  • Transfer stages are not timed and do not count for the overall standing.
  • All three timed stages are combined to give final results.
  • There will be a 5 hour time limit to complete all three stages.
  • Stage distances at Giba will range from 2.2km to 4km each

Entries cost R150 and include a free burger and soft drink,
