I won't buy a new bike. Spend money on upgrading the shock and wheels to soemthing super lekker and reliable (both wheels and shocks) and save the rest for something meaningfull.

I did it on a 26 Hardtail, paople thought we were crazy, but hell, people do it on single speeds. I think that is crazy.

I honestly think the Merida will be perfect, but if you haven't ridden it enough and on long enough rides to know wether you'll be happy with it I suggest you get out and ride a lot more. And soon.

If you have an itch for a new bike that needs scratching, I'll suggest going for reliability before lightweight.

Just bear in mind that there will be people on heavier, cheaper bikes that will finish in front of you, but the communal suffering will make everyone part of one unhappy family. Until Lourensford that is. The finishline has a way of changing memories.

Good luck and get out and ride.

Enjoy
