Stolen Pinarello - Philip Hindes

THIEVES have stolen gold-winning Team GB cyclist Philip Hindes’s bike — but his medal is safe.

The cycle was pinched along with his car in a raid on the sports star’s home.

Cops fear the bike could now be flogged as a piece of Olympic memorabilia.

Race ace Philip, 20, topped the winner’s podium at London 2012 in the Team Sprint alongside Jason Kenny and Sir Chris Hoy.

Robbers in Manchester stole his training bike along with the keys to a blue Volkswagen Golf they used as a getaway car. The motor was later found burned out.

The 3kg bike, which is worth £2,850, is still missing and is described as being a Pinarello Paris which is red, white and blue and has a Sky sticker and Hindes’ name on.

It was not the bike which Hindes rode when he won his Olympic medal.

Detective Constable Rob Southern, of Greater Manchester Police, said: “It might be the thieves try and offload the bike on to a sports memorabilia collector so I would urge anyone who is offered the chance to buy such a bike to call police immediately as you could be vital to helping get this bike back."

It is feared the burglars struck last week after noticing Hindes, who holds dual British and German nationality, had sent a tweet to his 8,500 followers on Twitter saying: ”Going to Germany tomorrow for a bit of racing and a few days at home!”
