why don't you just buy a 26" on sale? with all the fools insisting on 29" in SA there are a couple of excellent bargains out there

That was the original idea. Probably get a hole lot more for my buck if I went 26". All my friends have 26ers and still trying to convince me, bu tkeep telling them they havent tried the 29er, so don't judge until then. I might borrow one of their 26" bikes and see if the 30 gear setup will improve my times over the 29er I had on loan. Must admit the 29er hardtail road a lot softer and roles nicely over every bump. Do like the 29er after the ride. Climbed back onto my 26er yesterday and felt like BMX and tough climbing the hills on those 24gears.

Still wondering if it was the gears or the big wheels that made the climb up the hill so glorious.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback.

Got great deal on Scott Scale 940 29er today, so took the plunge without testing it. Hopefully kick my own times I made on the Merida that weighs 1kg more, else buyers blues!

farrelc,

I also bought me a Scott 940 today - my old Scott 26" broke after 7 years. So not upset at all because I got excellent service from the old one. I rode the 940 briefly down the road - feels huge but I'm hoping to adapt! Left the 940 at the shop to fit tubeless tyres and will collect in the morning - That's why I can't sleep - too excited!!

Respect...

Hehe. Yupp. Hardly slept. Up early for first ride, but damn rain. Dont really want to take her through the puddles day1 if you know what I mean. Hehe.

You went tubeless? How much they charge you? Are these tyres and rims tubeless compatible? I heard going tubeless is maintenance nightmare and if something goes wrong in race, ur buggered, where with tubes you can just swap out or patch?
