One such team is the Cape Town based Intellibus, who has entered seven of their riders. Team manager Chris Basson has expressed the importance of the resurgence of the Interprovs and Grands Prix to the South African track cycling scene.

“As a track-focused cycling team, we find this a very important part of developing track cycling in South Africa,” says Basson. “It has been about twenty years since these events were last hosted and we will ensure that our team participates.”

Intellibus is anticipating next weekend’s racing especially since three of their team members will be participating in the second 2012/2013 UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Glasgow in November. “This event will give us a good indication of what the riders have to work on ahead of Glasgow. Our only lady team member, Maroesjka Matthee will also be competing again after a long lay off.”

Matthee has only been back on the bike for the past two weeks and has not been competing since the SA Championships in Pietermaritzburg at end of April. With their six men and one woman, Intellibus is prepared for both the sprint and endurance races.

Entries close on Friday 5th October and no late entries will be accepted. Registration for the Interprov takes place on Friday evening 12 October at 17:00 with racing starting at 18:00; and registration for the Grand Prix is on Saturday 13 October at 09:00 with racing from 10:00.
