Merida Big Nine TFS 900 vs. Scott Aspect 910?

Hi,

I am new to cycling an needs some help/advise on choosing a bicycle. I have done some reading and are leaning towards the Merida Big Nime TFS 900. This is from reading blogs, reviews, etc.

I would like to know between the Merida and Scott Aspect 910, which is the better bike.

I can get the Scott for R9700, while the Merida is R12000.

Also, how does the Aspect 910 compare to the Acpect 10, as according to the sales agent at 1 of the shops it's the same which doesn't sound right as the Aspect 10 is a lot cheaper at about 8K.

Any help, and 1st hand experience with these bikes would help greatly.

My Budget is around 10-12K, as I would like to get something that is very decent and better then entry level, as I would not like to upgrade any components too soon.

Thanks in advance.

Another thing is the price? What would be reasonable prices for these bikes?

Also, is there any other bikes in the price range that is better then these?

Thanks for the quick reply. Somehow my gut is also to go with the Merida.

What would be a reasonable price for the Merida?

I currently ride a very old Aspect 10 26' and I want to upgrade. I would only be looking at the Scale if i was to stick with scott. My bike is fine although i have little other riding experience for comparisons. Its just that i would prefer to be riding the top end hardtail from any brand. I may be a bit of a snob but I want to know i am on a decent race frame. Then if i want to upgrade at any time It makes more sense when the same frame is specced better with other models. I would feel a little silly putting great parts on my Aspect 10.
