  1. Yeah I have a good very expensive lawyer. He’s confident but I’m still nervous. I’m already trying to save money and talk less about some of the details. The first time we spoke I spent a few hundred rand hearing about how much he loved his new E bike.
  2. Thanks ICM I’m not sure what she is entitled to but she is asking to take a a lot of items from the house which is mostly fine by me even though she hasn’t contributed much towards them. She wants the car registered in my name which she drives that is financed for more than it’s worth and a lump sum which I don’t have. So it’s very hard to see how I’ll ever get an agreement. Meanwhile she’s living rent free in my house while I rent a flat so I cannot wait forever. So it’s really worrying how long these things can drag out yet hard to see how we will ever agree on an anything.
  3. Hope all you divorced Hubbers are enjoying better times. I'm also currently going through the process. I'm married out of community of property with no accruals. Thankfully there are no kids involved. After funding my wives business I'm about as close to bankruptcy as I think a guy can get and this has been compounded by all the recent interest rate increases. I have nothing but a little asset value left i my house. Does anyone know what happens when the settlement agreement goes absolutely nowhere? I simply cant afford to come close to meeting her requirements. I'm already relying on family handouts just to rent an apartment for myself which is a bit depressing to say the least.
  4. I use a music stand I paid very little for from takealot. But as a solution its no where near as practical as the kickr desk or the Cyclops equivalent. A work colleague and I are thinking of building one using our current suppliers but it has become a long term project.
  5. I've been a set of 60/80 DH wheels with the ceramic hubs for nearly three years and I'm extremely happy with them. The service at the time of purchase was excellent. A friend of mine also bought a set and damaged his rim which was replaced no questions asked.
  6. It was a pretty well run event and I think Challenge lived up to its reputation. The route was interesting and very tough in places. We were very fortunate with conditions for the swim and it went ahead pretty well. It was little bit hard to follow the route and with more swell and chop it could be quite challenging to hold a swim there. The bike change meant we rode three laps up and down Blouberg beach front and into the nature reserve. Its the flattest route I have ever done and for me personally it was a long time to be in the TT position. The run was not a scenic trip through Cape Town the bulk of the effort was in the ascents of the unused roads in what I think is District 6. I was expecting lots of ascent but I didn't realise how steep some of the climbs were and found myself walking on each of the three laps. I enjoyed it and will be back if it goes ahead again. Pros; Great swim venue Well organised practice swim Big transition areas Easy access straight onto the bike course Full road closures Regular and frequent aid stations Great finish area Nice to see family able to finish with Mums and Dads Cons; Swim buoys a bit hard to see despite good conditions more sighting buoys would help Changing areas are a little small in both transitions The ride into cape town had a rough surface in places and in a SE would be pretty awful The run route wasn't great.
  7. I went and bought a new coffee machine as an incentive to stay awake for the whole race.
  8. I'm entered. As a pretty average climber on the bike I chose this over the Cape Ultra or Race 2 Stanford. I hope this one doesn't get canned if the interest is low.

    Formula 1...

If a driver illegally cuts a corner after a mistake and impedes another driver on re entry, why shouldn't he receive a penalty. In other sports intention or fault will not excuse punishment like it does in F1. It made for a disappointing end to the race, but surely the rules are evolving for safety. As has been pointed out a similar thing happened last year with Verstappen and Raikkonen.
  10. I had a great weekend. My swim was 2230 long so added a few minutes to my overall time. The cycle was beautiful with hardly any wind the second lap was very busy. I think most people were playing fair as I didn't notice the big bunches I have seen in the past. I have put in a lot of extra effort on the bike recently and It paid off. I was then very pleasantly surprised I could keep up a good pace for the run. I finished in 4:57 which is a PB for Durban and my second sub 5 hour 70.3. I'm super happy and looking forward to a month or two of taking it a bit easier.
  11. Biogen will be in sports bottles, and water will be in Pump bottles with a little squeezed out so they fit into a bottle cage.
  12. There are only two rails for bike racking. Last year I was racked right at the end so after running up the beach and through the changing area I still had about 3-400m to go before I reached my bike. I always go barefoot and keep my shoes cleated and help upright with rubber bands. In this race the rewards are greater than usual because of the long transition.
  13. As far as I remember from last year the rule was pretty relaxed at least from where started. There were lots of people adjusting shoes at the beginning so passing was difficult to avoid. Then when I encountered some very slow riders I did the right thing and held back until I got passed by masses of other people and decided (after checking for martials) to do the same.
  14. I was going through a pair of goggles every few months because my eyelashes are long enough to wear the anti fog off the lenses. Now for training I use a pair of Aqua Sphere goggles with no anti fog (I learnt to put a drip of soap on each lenses to eliminate fogging), for racing I have two pairs one clear and one tinted. This set up has lasted me two years now. I also always buy the ones with various nose bridge sizes to get the fit right.
  15. Years ago when I joined the hub I had no idea how to make an avatar and this one was about the first one I saw. Its just an interesting picture with two mildly amusing instructions I think some people could do well to follow. I couldn't care less if it was depicting Moses, Jesus, Mohhamed, Thor or George Bush. It would be a good time for slowing down on the going forth and multiplying as this instruction is aging badly. I hope things change but right now more people is one of the last things humanity needs. If the Earth is here for Man then why is he not fuming about the fact that we are destroying it and the most successful eco systems on earth exist where there are less or no people interfering. I fully respect your perspective but mine is fundamentally different. I feel we don't have any more right to life than the other creatures on the earth. So there is not much point in our discussion I just wanted to put my position out here.
  16. Humans are the only species on this planet whose existence is to the detriment of so many others. I would argue that 71740 less people is something positive. If the planet and all life on it had a voice I doubt there would be any support for pro life with regard to humans.
  17. I’m #76. As usual I’m really looking forward to it. It’s probably my favourite event.
  18. For a while I was thinking I might be the only one.
  19. Ok, I'm not at all wishing to argue just seeking clarity. Here is an example; I'm at a mini roundabout with four exits and along with several other cars/bikes I'm turning right. Then at some point a car arrives at the opposite exit and wants to take the same exit (turning left). The arrive alive website states that you give way to any car that crosses the yield line but our procession is preventing that car from moving over the yield line so the first to arrive rule (which I can't find on the arrive alive or dept of transport department websites) is irrelevant. That car would simply have to wait for our procession to pass.
  20. Apologies if this is a slight de rail. At the weekend I saw a Bakkie covered with some stickers of mini roundabout signs and comments with the biggest one the back stating that mini roundabouts are fhe same as four way stops. I was a bit taken back as I learn't to drive in England where they are everywhere and we use them in pretty much the same way as any roundabout. Because there are relatively few mini roundabouts I have often thought people are a bit confused by them so whether I'm in my car or on my bike I am very careful. Then I found this website which certainly looks like this Bakkie driver isn't the only one to think this way. I would be interested in hearing thoughts of those who learnt to drive here. https://circles.org.za/

    Give it a TRI

A proper fitting TT bike will also save your legs for the run. You might be one of the lucky few who can achieve a reasonable fit with a road bike, but according to a bike fitter I used they are never as good as TT geometry. It matters less for a 70.3 but for full IM every little bit of additional pace will be appreciated.

    Give it a TRI

It’s a shame this is the same weekend as provisional date for the Race to Stanford. Any guesses as to where in Cape Town this event might be taking place?
  23. At this stage I'm keen for 2020.
  24. Race Report I was a little disappointing to be starting the day with a shortened swim and it was probably a good call by the organisers. It wasn't the roughest swim I have ever done but it was choppy and I swallowed a fair bit of water when coming up to breathe only to find no air. It seems that most people I know clocked a distance of slightly over 2 km so it wasn't shortened as much as they said. I finished in a time of 31:22 I was familiar with the new bike route and although I am terrible at climbing I enjoyed the opportunity to get out of the tri bars and stretch my back out. I kept a pretty steady effort throughout the ride and I was probably fortunate to miss the worst of the headwind. I thought at the time I ate and drank enough and felt about as good as could be expected going into T2. My time for the ride was 5:51. The run started of very well and a real highlight was seeing the pro's finishing off their efforts. Lucy Charles Barkley ran past me at about 3 km which was pretty cool and the other pro women all followed over the next lap. It got very difficult for me at km 16 as for the first time in a Triathlon I had a terrible stitch which had me intermittently walking. Although the worst of the pain subsided I never really felt great again and although I ran more than I walked I never really got back into a rhythm. I finished the run a fair bit slower than I expected so now I have some thinking to do. Maybe my nutrition on the bike was a bit forced, maybe all the saltwater upset my stomach, maybe I pushed a little too hard during the ride? My run time was 4:24 and as before the buzz of finishing was superb. Once again the crowds were excellent. My total time was 10:55:27. A little Rant; This wasn't the first windy day in PE so why can't the organisers do a little more to stop all the litter blowing all over the place? some netting would surely help as the volunteers do a great job but there simply wasn't enough of them to stop all the plastic bags and cups blowing all over the route. I really felt bad to be part of something which is polluting the city in this way. As for the people blatantly littering they should be absolutely ashamed of themselves the litter zones are huge but I saw several people making no effort at all. That really sucked. Another Rant; It was impossible for me to self seed in the the timing pens. Everybody just pushed there way forward and disregards the system. If they want to continue with this I feel they should adding a letter to everybody's swim hat according to previous times so at least we can see who should be in front of who. The crazy thing is there are only about 100 competitors who are capable of completing the swim in under 1hr yet the holding pen is full from about an hour before the start. Surely it would be safer to have the less competent swimmers together as well. But all in all I really enjoyed it and I'm hoping I can come back next year.
  25. Yeah swim was supposed to be 1600m but my watch said 2150 (although the watch had a bit of an off day). It was pretty choppy so probably a good call. It’s really sad to come in and hear about the deaths.
