fitting a powerlink 2

I just wanted to know do you or dont you get 9 speed or 10 speed powerlinks.

 

I was in a LBS on the weekend and they gave me one that is stamped 9 speed and said one size fits all.

 

now

a few months ago i fitted a powerlink (not sram)i could not get sram

but it was the silver one cant remember the name. its on the thread

here somewhere.

 

now why i pose this question again is cos my

bike started making these funny noises like the gears were jumping and

it was freaking me out.

 

so i took my red baby in to the local guys here and had the chain replaced and they told me that the powerlink on my hg chain was causing the troubles.

 

so i had the shimano pin fitted that came with the chain. Can the pin be re used or do i have to get new ones every time i remove the chain .(i remove it often to clean the chain) ???

NO. You only get 'n 9spd SRAM re-usable powelink. The 10spd is not re-usable and is called Power-lock.  http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=871

 

 

Connex makes a  re-usable 10spd link but it is not a powerlink. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=5159

No and apparently it is expensive to replace everytime. I have never needed to as a new chain comes with a new pin.
