Skiers thumb.... Has this happend to you?

Ok so took a little wipeout tore the ligaments in my thumb a condition known as skiers thumb. Where the ligament that provides the stability and pinching "power" of the thumb ripped off completly, So been off the bike for 3 weeks now, and had the initial ligament reconstructive surgery, in 4 weeks they take the wires and the anchors out.

From what i gave read is that i have to not stress the thumb for 4 months after the second surgery.

Has this happend to anyone else? And how long before you were back on the bike. I can't see myself not mountainbiking for 6 months in total, and already ordered my XX gripshifts so i dont have to gear with the thumb.

Yup. Kaarkloof 2007. Took about 5 months to figure out the reason for the pain. Physio misdiagnosed at first, sold me an expensive rubber ball and sent me packing. Still causes me discomfort today. I ride Shimano dual control. Best ever. Better than grip shift where you will still need to grip underside with your thumb.

I might be changing my setup now that the pain is going. Yes, it stays for a long time. If u r keen on my dc, give me a shout.

Thanks for the offer Dirtbreath but i shouldnt have any issues with the gripshifts, once they take the wires and the anchors and screws and crap out next month, mine was a total tear, i.e. when i got back on the bike after the wipe ripping up the track i tried to shift, and my shifters just felt like spongy almost as if the cable snapped, so i stopped looked at the shifters tried to shift and then i saw its not that the shifters didnt want to go forward its that my thumb kept bending backwards everytime i tried to shift lol oops.gif

Then gripshifts are for two reasons, keeps my thumb from taking reverse strain while gearing and if ii wipe again my thumb wont be on a shift paddle so no backwards force applied via that avenue.

Its the fact that i wont be able to chance anything technical for 3-4 months after the second op thats killing me. Its only been three weeks now and im already displaying advanced symptoms of cabin fever. I even recommended for saftey my girl should move out for the next 5 months or so. I cant be held liable for my actions.

Ill be able to do tar but thats like a stripper, she gets you hot under the collar but she never gives you satisfaction.
