I recently bought a Fox V2 Pilot helmet. When I tried it on a Large felt nice and snug but not too tight and I figured that the pads would "settle" after a few rides and it would be comfortable. I have since ridden with it a few times and I have come to the conclusion that the pads aren't going to "settle" and that my lid is in fact too small!

I am using it for DH and after about 5-6 runs, I don't look forward to putting it back on again. I have been looking for a set of X-Large pads but I haven't had any luck.

Is there perhaps someone that has a set of XL pads that they would like to swap for a set of L pads (or sell if they are spare)? The L and XL helmet shells are exactly the same only the padding thickness varies.

Alternatively where can I lay my hands on a set of pads locally? I have found a set of cheek pads on E-bay but I would like a full set. There is a full set on e-bay but the seller doesn't ship to SA.

Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

cant you just cut the pads down a bit??

Nige, I have been toying with that idea but I would rather see if I can get a replacement set. I was actually planning to pull the lid out tonight and have a look see at how the padding is attached.

This is a radical solution but maybe take the back of a spoon and push the foam on the actual helmet in a bit where it's pushing. It's best to try other solutions first but I did that with my d3 cos I've got a lump on my head where I plug into the Matrix.

Deff a last resort cos it cannot be undone.

I get a lot of pressure around my cheeks (save the chubby comments for someone else...) as well as a little bit at the top of my head to the point that riding with the lid after a few runs is really uncomfortable. Not too keen to mess around with the foam as that stuff is supposed to save your nut in the event of an impact. I'll chat to a mate in Houston and see if he's willing to ship the pads for me. As a last resort I'll consider trimming the pads (only if I can re-assemble them after cutting them down though)

Alternatively I could just sell the helmet and go buy the right size.......

Grebel, this might help!!! Does your missus have a sewing machine? Get her to sew a row of stitching through the middle of each cheek pad. It will compress the cheek pad and take the pressure off your cheeks.

She doesn't unfortunately. Just waiting to hear from Nic. They have stock and he is busy getting me a price for a set of XL pads. If I can'y get the pads I'll definitely give the stitching a bash!

How's the BMX going?

Its going very well. Have set up a big team for 2013 with GT and Fox. Great sprint training for Downhill. I get more tired in a 40 second BMX heat than on a 5 minute Downhill run. Enjoying it tremendously and will definately help my Downhill fitness for 2013.

Great news! Going to be interesting doing both disciplines next year... You riding 20" or Cruisers? I have been riding a bit lately and I find that the more I ride my DH bike, the more I want to ride it!!! Still taking it easy though. Will look at Sports class next year.

I am concentrating more on BMX for 2013, mainly due to my son doing so well. I'm on the 20' GT Speed Series Pro. GT brought in some 2013 models which were allocated to the Team. Its way easier to ride Downhill than BMX.

Great that you on a full blown DH machine now. I sold my 2012 GT Fury and waiting for the 2013 models to arrive then i will be back in the DH mix again.

Look forward to seeing you out on the trails next year. Rode with Justin last weekend in PMB. Told me he bought your old bike thumbup1.gif

I'll be on my 'Goose for a while to come still. It's going to be a while before I "outskill" that bike...

Yeah, he bought my 2012 bike and changed the components over onto a spare GT Fury Carbon frame i had. He is loving it, expecting him to do well next year.

Nothing wrong with a 'Goose' and its the perfect bike for you to get to grips with Downhill riding. When you want to up grade let me know as i have a brand new spare GT Fury Alloy frame available.
