Anyone know the railway section from Mamelodi - Rayton - Bronkhorstspruit? Safety?

I looked at it via Google maps, and checked the gpx routes I have. Don't have anything east of Rayton on the tracks, but there is an access road all the way to Bronkies. Not sure how safe it is though (at least on your own). Closer to Mamelodi, no idea. Wouldn't go there myself.

The section going east from Mamelodi, I wouldn't go further west than "S25 43.877 E28 29.534" (where the R515 crosses the railroad). About 1km west of that waypont you start seeing shacks.

A while ago I rode with the sigletrack shop group and we rode from the shop to Rayton, but I can not remeber how to get to Rayton from the Quarry. I am familiar with the rest but its just that part that I can not remember. Does anyone have some pointers for me?

I will be doing alot of riding in that area. I have a nice PTA East to Groenies to Zwavelpoort plotte then onto the railway line and back to Silverlakes. I will be doing the route sometime from the 22nd. Its about 105km if anyone is keen at an avg of 18 -20km/h.

Was told to try go in a group if you do the tracks - we head out in Boschkop road direction to the railway bridge and back.Get onto the track via donkerhoek.

Are you referring to the North-South tracks that run from Donkerhoek to Germiston? I ride those on my own, Haven't seen anyone dodgy-looking thereabouts yet.

Has anyone ridden the trail recently? With all the palisades coming up over the last two years I've noticed most of the Moraleta trails are gated off.

Found this on a website, but those holes are fixed/gated now.

I was going to ask whether it's still open and unobstructed enough... Used to ride it almost every day in the 90s, even then there were a few issues with bridges and fences, fortunately nothing we couldn't get past with a little bit of ingenuity. These days, I'd imagine security is such a concern that a lot of stuff is simply blocked off.

There's still plenty holes in Moreletta spruit fences. Check for palisade tops that's lower than the others, they're broken off and just lean against the fence and ground ph34r.png
