Troy Lee Designs D2 helmet sizing

Hi there chaps!

My mate is in the states and he is getting me a D2 helmet for cheap.Ive measured the size of my pip and its 56cm.When i look at the size chart on the troy lee website it says i need the medium/large size.As the medium/large helmets range from 56-59 and xsmall/small range from 53-55cm my head falls kind of in the middle!im scared if i buy the med/lrg that it will be too big for me around the cheeks and lower sections!when you buy the helmet does it come with a range of pads to make the fit perfect or is it just 1 set of pads.unfortunately i cannot get hold of an actual helmet and try it on to see which size fits best!

Some help would be much appreciated!

Thanx

what do you mean your head falls in the middle? you mean you are 55.5cm?

Just go with the size recommendation. Helmets are supposed to fit like a second skin. It will be a tight fit, but not uncomfortably so. As for range of sizes, TLD normally ships lids with both thick and thin liner and cheek padding. if it doesnt ship along with the D2 lids, then you are able to get them as aftermarket items. Maybe get your friend to get you the optional thicker padding kit as well.

My pip is also 56cm. I don't know about the D2 specifically, but if Troy Lee's fit is anything to go by, then you should be fine.

I have a D3 in medium. I was also concerned that it might fit too loose as 56cm is the lower side of the size range (my 661 Evo is also medium, but on the looser side).

The TLD however is super snug. At first i thought I'd need to butter my head to get it in there. So TLD medium fits a 56cm knoggin nice and tight. Again though, that's the D3. Not 100% sure on D2s.

Also, remember that the difference in sizing for many/most full face helmets is determined by the lining. Usually the shells are the same size, they just put more padding in for it to fit smaller heads. So maybe see if your friend can get a spare liner in small, just to cover your bases.

Hope that helps

I have a D2 and a D3. I had the exact same problem as you .....between sizes. I opted for the XS/Small D2 as it was the recommended size. I found the D2 helmet a little to tight and when replacing the D2, i bought a size medium D3 which was perfect.

My suggestion to you, get the size medium / large D2 and use the extra helmet pads if you need to make it smaller.
