Shimano 5600 shifter question

I've got a question about the 105 5600 sti's that I'm hoping someone can shed light on.

 

With the current set up on my TCR I've got the brake cables routed under the bar tape and the gear cables 'external' coming out of the side of the hoods.

 

Does anyone know if both brake and gear cables can be internally routed through a suitable handle bar or if the brakes have to stay external?

 

Just wondering as I've just taken delivery of a very nice set of ness full carbon bars with separate internal routes for gear and brakes.

 

Shifters look kinda like these but full black.

I suspect that these only work externally.

 

Newer models (as well as SRAM and Campag) route both cables via the handlebar.

Thought as much... not such a bad thing as I wanted to keep the adjusters sticking out as I sometimes rest on them like mini aero bars.
