Hi Hubbers,

I am looking for some help. I want to make the move to a 29er and have the opportunity to get a 2012 specialized epic expert dual suspension.

My concern is

A) the rear shock makes a lot of noise when I bounce it, sounds as tho the internals are trashed or in need of a service. Is this normal with these brain setups?

B) Are there only specific dealers that can service these shocks and the fork for that matter (SID BRAIN)

Any advice would be appreciated before I spend all this cash.

Anything I should look out for

many thanks

Very expensive to do a major service on those brain-enabled forks/shocks - around R1400 a shock never mind major repairs. Not everyone that can service say a fox shock can service a brain enabled fox shock. A dealer that does specialized should be able to do it or send it off.

The shock and fork has to be sent away to Specialized via a Spez dealer. Just a regular service on both is around R3,000 as you also have to pay the bike shop for removal and reassembly to your bike.

OK, so it seems its a pretty expensive bike to maintain. I am able to get the bike at what I think is a very good price. (about R25k) So I am deciding whether or not its going to be worthwhile or hold on and stick to a brand like Giant.

Don't get me wrong it is a great bike. I had the expert and then upgraded to the S Works. Just understand the shock and fork service is expensive and is only done by Specialized. Everything else is pretty standard. 25k is a good price for the 2012 Expert.
