GT Zaskar 29er Sport or Titan 29er Elite

Just a thought. How about a second hand 29er? There are more and more coming on the market and a lot seem to be impulse buys that have hardly been used. Every shops is pushing 9ers and there are quite a few people buying into it and finding it may not be the best beast for them.

Seen some steals around for the R10K mark.

Yeah Hellocolour I have been scouring here looking out for a deal! The Zaskar seems to have good things in general said about it, so leaning that way...

Deffo, good bike for sure and the best deals always seem to be in another town! Sure you'll dig what ever one you get.

Seems I had some inaccurate weights in my first post. (All are 29er's):

  • Silverback Vida 2, +-12.5Kg, R9k cash at Hatfield Cycles
  • GT Zaskar Sport, +-12.65Kg, R9k cash at Hatfield Cycles
  • Titan Elite 29er, +-??Kg, R9k at Solomons
  • Momsen AL329 Race, +-12.76Kg, R11.5k at Solomons
  • Momsen AL329, +-12.8Kg, R8.5k at Solomons
  • Merida Big Nine TFS 500, 12.8Kg, +-R10k at Hatfield Cycles.

Momsen has a great website. They give the weight and price also.

Does anybody know the weight of the Titan Elite 29er please? - I think it's 14Kg, but it could be wrong.

If i had to pick id look at the Silverback first. Reason being they have lifetime frame warranty. Dont know about the others GT Zaskar i have seen and its a sexy bike. Momsen for extra 1.5k will be drawing factor for me as the specs are much better. This all said goto LBS and try them out before you buy. Its alot of cash and Your the one thats gonna have to live with spending the cash. From posts looks like GT already has its seeds planted :)

Thanks for the research Mountaindude! Where did you get such accurate weights? Are they including pedals? Gonna go have another look at the sexy GT tonight and make my final decision. Would spend more then R10K but as everyone knows there are all the accessories still to buy too.

Looking at the specs on the Titan you would expect it to weigh lighter then what it is- must be a heavy frame!

Here are a few other sites:

Don't know if this can be real. The last two are 5 pounds and cost $1200.

Here are some older bike weights: http://weightweenies...mes&sortby=real

When I felt the Titan 29er Elite, it felt a bit heavier than the others, but it is difficult to say for sure. The guy weighed it, with a hand held scale, and said it's 14kg, but that was with pedals. And the same guy said that the Momsen AL329 was also 14kg.

When comparing Titan's and Momsen's websites, Momsen's has got the following advantages:

  • No irritating ads that has nothing to do with cycling.
  • Prices
  • Weight
  • You can even choose to see the site in Afrikaans if you like.
