Hi Fellow Hubbers

I know this is unrelated to cycling but input or advise would be greatly appreciated. I am looking at buying a Tata Xenon double Cab. But I'm slightly hesitant never owned a Tata nor know anyone who has. Maybe one of you have one or can assist me with your feeling on these vehicles.

Thank you very much for assisting.

Go with a second hand hilux instead. Tbh I did the whole Chinese (and in this case,Indian) bakkie research. Let's just say it didn't pan out like the Chinese carbon thread here...

Not great news. Not happy customers. Not good support. Horrible resale values and spares are apparently a nightmare.

But take with a pinch of salt, I haven't owned one. Taken a number for test drives and was impressed. They're built to exist, not to perform.

Good luck!

I have a 2010 Bought it new. Came with a 90000 service plan and I sprung the extra 7k for a 300000km warranty. It's pretty basic with no airbags and the plastics are pretty cheap. But you get what you pay for. It's got electric windows power steering, aircon and the all important service plan. For the same amount of money at the time i could have got 2nd hand Toyota's with retarded mileage and Mazda's that were about to go out of warranty.

Fuel mileage is pretty good. I get about 11km per litre but I'm not that anal about that so don't quote me.

I've used it for some light offroading even tho it's not 4x4 and it's way better offroad than my Mazda drifter was.

Now on to the negatives.

there is some turbo lag compared to the fords and Toyota's i've driven.

The space in the back seat isn't great.

And I've had it back to the dealership 3 times with the same issue. there's a pipe that uses the exhaust gasses to spool up the turbo. That has popped off 3 times. It's not a major problem. I just drove it back to the dealership k@kked on them and it got sorted.

On balance I'd say go for it. It's not the best looking double cab but for under 250k it's a deal in my book. It's the first car i bought entirely with my head and not using my heart at all and it's the best automotive purchase I've ever made.

Now q all the geniuses who are going to tell you to rather buy a 1998 Toyota with 600000km on the clock for the same money.

Thank you. Its a 2011 model with 27 000km. I will take extended warranty. I am getting it well below trade which is my concern? Car is in great condition. Buying from a Tata dealership not private.

Oh. Ja Trade in values are pretty k@k apparently. So you scoring. some other oke has taken the hit. and they come with a 5 year 90000km maintenance plan. I can't comment on the individual vehicle but mine is fine. My wife calls it the tractor. hahaha. I've done multiple long trips in it tho and it worked fine.
