Hi All

So I've been given the go ahead for my operation, end of Aug.

Does anyone here that cycles had a Cochlear Implant? Or know anyone.

Would really like to get some feed back.

You should be better off after the implant - they have amazing results with them - even if you can't ride, your life will improve.

Ask Bobbo_sa - his wife might know someone who rides with one.

Definately, although the recovery period is long and the activation of the various electrodes etc is done over a number of sessions you will see some awesome progress.

WIll PM you some details

Yes, it will be a life changer of note. Although I am not completely deaf and do quite well without aids, as mine are as useful as a Nun with big t1ts.

My main reasoning is to be able to hear and communicate better with my kids.

No riding is not an option. Doc has already said I can.

I was looking for more feed back as in wind noise, the device falling off (mtbing), sweat affecting the device etc.

Thanks that'll be great.

Yes Doc said 2 - 3 weeks off the bike. and then take it very easy from there. But willing to pay the small price for the bigger picture.

I know 2 deaf riders with coehlear implant and both gave up cycling, not sure why?

One of them can't cycle in straight line, maybe it affects him.

I am also deaf and it is not worth it for my age, but for children, maybe..

You must think hard before going for it because I know half of them did not work out. Maybe too old with bad habits...

You can e-mail me and I can forward those 2 guys cell number and you can ask them questions..

My wife has two implants, only wear one however when we go mtbing. Never had problems with the device falling off. Sweat also not a problem, she also plays netball and just wipe it dry afterwards or put it in the "dryer".

Good luck with the operation, I believe it will make a big difference.

This is the first negative report about an implant I have read.

This sounds, excuse the pun, great. Thanks for the reply.

Please give an update on your riding and hearing after the operation! Remember it will take some time and adjustments before you will get the full benefits of the implant. All the best.

So been less than a week, and I'm REALLY missing the bike.

The op went ok, it is more sore than expected but they had to "drill" away more bone than thought and also had to cut some muscle away.

All in all, it's getting better day by day.

Next appointment is on Wednesday and I'll see what the Doc says with regards to getting back on the IDT.

Sweet, first session on the IDT, 1hr 15min. I have to keep the HR below 70% as the Doc doesn't want to much pressure in the ear to cause bleeding.

That was the BEST IDT session ever. Could have carried on forever.
