Single speed crank and chain

Hi all,

I'm currently building up a single speed road bike. I'm wanting to use a normal 9/10 speed crank with one of the blades removed.

I'm also wanting to get a flip flop hub wheelset with a 16T sprocket.

What ratio should I be running? Would 39/16 be too easy?

Also, what chain should I get? The wheel manufacture reckons a 1/8". Will this work with the crank?

Any help would be appreciated

Take this with a pinch of salt, as my ss knowledge is quite limited.. I am also building a ss at the moment. I'm planning on using a 9 speed chain and a chain tensioner (I'm using a road frame). 39/16 is not THAT light, but you might find yourself spinning out on flats. It completely depends on what you want to use the bike for though. If you want to use it for training on the road, try 42/16. May take some getting used to, but will build power. If you're just using it to run around town, 39/16 is perfect.

Got a 39/16 on my SS commuter, fairly flat route with the wind the biggest factor (South Easter in Cpt) into the wind leka ratio. With the wind crazy Froome cadence very seldom get dropped by geared rider...

- Crank should be fine maybe run 8speed chain or SS specific
