SRAM 9 speed MTB shifter on a road bike

Okay i know it sounds stupid but i have an old steel TREK 470 road bike that i use on my IDT I want to fit my old 9 speed Chorus groupset to it but use flat handle bars instead of drops.

 

If i use SRAM 9 speed MTB shifters, will their be a problem with the actuation ratio on the gear changing.
