They weigh enough to unbalance your bike in the air, and they're not quite as efficient as traditional derailleur setups, but if you're looking for reliable touring kit you can't go wrong. As for the Shimano and SRAM options - rather spend the cash and get the real thing, even if you have to send it to Germany every 10 years for a service.

Let's keep price out of this for now , I see they are very expensive about R20k . Hi, I have 2nd hand complete Rohloff hub with a spare brake rotor that I bought a couple of years ago for a "project" that never happened. Give me a PM if you're interested.
