Brakes taking very late

Hi Guys,

I have a merida big 9 and have a broblem with my rear brakes. its fitted with Shimano M505 and the rear break take very late, almost to grip. i have tried most things to adjust but cant get it any better. front brakes are perfect. Any ideas?

Either your pads are shot or they need to be re-bled, quick home / DIY job

If you cant find the Shimano Mineral oil and some silicone tube + syringe from Dischem then the Tektro bleed kit is what you need (also mineral oil) +- R110

PAds are fine and had them bled not so long ago. Thanks for the tip. will bleed them again

I had the same problem, bleed from the bottom and it should be sorted, just make sure you don't spill any oil on your pads.

One key "tip" that helped me at the time was the rolling of the membrane back onto the reservoir before putting the lid back on, this helps reduce any air trapped under the membrane.

I had a similar issue a while ago. It turned out that the spacing was not done correctly when the brakes were fitted, so the pads wore down partially. I would look at the pads from the top without taking them out, thinking that they were ok, but once I removed them I noticed a nice big groove on both brake pads creating a nice little pocket where the rotor was free-floating.
