Yep. Dont waste your time there.

Rather be the slowest on a wednesday getting stronger than a strong boy on tuesdays wasting time there....

I've been there a couple of Wednesdays and have mostly been riding by myself because I couldn't keep up with any bunch, but I'm definitely improving as a result of pushing really hard.

Killarney Race Report # 5

by Dennis Lamminga

No less than 129 riders turned up for the 5th Wednesday Killarney Track Racing. With the sun setting later, the racing is getting harder and harder as we race until the sun set. The full hour + 1 lap is getting closer, and my feeling is that by the end of October we’ll be racing a full 46 km averaging 40+ kmph!

Some new faces joined the usual suspects and it was great to see a few clubs like The Outriders and Cycles Direct bringing their troops en masse. After a few last minute puncture repairs and a quick warm-up lap, everyone lined up at the start where Wayne Roberts from Lights of Linea congratulated Maroesjke for winning the Lights of Linea League Series.

Shortly after the prize giving ceremony we were off and right from the start Scratch + 1 tried to work together to stay ahead of the Elites. Racing in our bunch was a bit less controlled this week and everyone seemed to have their own agenda and break away from our bunch. There was a bit of guttering going on, and the racing was relentless. We recorded sub 5 minute laps for the first 30 minutes. The peloton stuck together though, but we could see the Elite Scratch bunch getting closer and closer.

The inevitable happened: A break-away group from the Scratch bunch caught us and our group tried very hard to stay with the cream of Western Cape Cycling. They were flying around the corners and attacking each straight with relentless enthusiasm. One would think that they would ease into the wind, but au contraire: this is where the most of the attacks, guttering and brutal racing happened!

Pic: Racing in Scratch: HR =99% all the way!

With 2 laps to go, 2 of us just couldn’t hold anymore and we sat up to wait for the 2nd Elite bunch to swallow us up. They were with us in no time, and luckily Anton and myself could hold onto this group for the next 9 minutes and even contest the friendly sprint at the finish line. Kudos to Reinhardt (Outriders) and Robin & Gary (Cycles Direct) who were strong enough to stick with the Elites all the way to the end.

Big thanks to Midge & Sharon organising our Wednesday racing.

Thanks also Dad & Bernie for the beautiful pictures.

I’m already looking forward to next week!

Thanks guys, what a great evening, first ride at the track for about 10 years! Will definitely be back next week! Is there racing on the Track ever Wednesday evening and when is that last one?

Where can we see some more of the pictures?

We will be riding until the end of November. We have tried going into December but the turnout is low and doesn't cover the track and ambulance. Will start again mid-January.

Although..... With the kind of turnout we are getting now days I think guys could be keen to carry on for longer.

Personally I wish there was more happening in december because I always hate that big gap over that period. :whistling:
