Helmet replacement?

I had no problem with the first helmet, it did it's job.

 

I was just wondering if there is better out there as I have only been in MTB for just over 3 months.

 

I know when I bought it at the time at Sportsmans Warehouse it was one of the more expensive ones they had in stock.

 

Still finding my way around the different brands.

All helmets have to pass the same safety standard checks, so from a safety perspective they are very similar. The main differences relate to the straps, adjustability, etc.

 

The one difference on the safety side, in my view, is the length of the helmet at the back. A number of manufacturers have started to bring out helmets that extend further down the back of the head, and protect more. I Have a Rudy Project Windmax great helmet nice shape and very light maybe that's an option to look at. the fit is also very comfortable and the best part it has great vents and keeps you colon those hot days

Hi, Went over handlebars the past weekend as well and hit my head.

 

Lost consciousness and saw after that I have real damage to helmet although I am OK now. Very glad about wearing my helmet.

It is a bell and they have crash warrantee which I was not aware of so getting new one at 30% of the price.

 

They just wanted the old one, which is in pieces any way.

 

The manufacturers normally says to replace after any hard impact.

If you lost consciousness do me a favour and be careful, think of getting a scan. I ended up in ICU on a ventilator and effectively died twice on the table as a result of flaking out a week after an accident that put me over the bars at 40 km/h. I smashed a helmet, but was too busy at work and under too much pressure to do much so I just carried on. I didn't even feel concussed.

Certainly, safety standards appear to be quite minimal. One article I read recently suggested they have actually fallen over the past decade: http://cyclehelmets.org/1081.html

 

The point seems to be that the standards are imposed on all helmet manufacturers, and they do not much more than comply at the lowest level possible. I like POC as they seem to be trying to raise that bar.
