(you don't need to answer I am only stirring........... but being semi serious  ... )

The 42T is not for XCO but for marathons like Barberton, Sabie etc. I am not the smallest of guys so it is nice to have that 42 as a reserve. Sometimes I run a 30 or 32 Wolftooth on the front depending on the race profile.

The 30/42 gives me just a bit easier ratio than a 26/36 which is what I had on my 2x10 before going 1x10.

Roneblack46 I see you are using a SRAM deraillor. I have a similar setup with XT Shadow+ but I am not entirely happy yet with the shifting in the lower gears. The 42-36-32-28 are butter smooth but below that it is not very crispy.

How is your experience with your setup?

Mine shifts smoothly as from day 1. No issues even when changing on a steep ascent. I have changed 2 things since the initial installation and that is changed from grip shift to clicker and I have a completely enclosed gear cable from clicker to RD. The mud at Sabie played havoc with the grip shift as I could not shift gears as gloves and grip shift was constantly slippery. The clicker has made a huge difference in the shifting at the back. More crisp and instant.

Previously I did not have a totally enclosed gear cable and in muddy conditions my cable would become sticky thus affecting rear changes. Since the totally enclosed cable I have riding in pretty muddy conditions with crisp shifting.

I also placed a order with them earlier in the year, paid $18 extra for 7days shipping services. Only got it yesterday (wait was about 2months, quite disappointed with their service RE posting)

Keen to have it fitted tomorrow.

I got the 40t and 16t combo. The OneUp 16T sprocket replaces the original 15T, 17T and one cassette spacer

They make a replacement cage for Shimano with an offset pulley similar to the SRAM RD architecture. Details here.
