Hi all

Does anyone have more info on the De Wildt MTB race scheduled for the 29th?

http://www.cycleevents.co.za/mtb-events/6480/

The page on cycleevents is incomplete. No contact number, no events webpage, no route info (ie is it a lapped distance, or marathon-type or xco orientated?). Will I be able to enter with a SAS board?

Surely if you want people to enter, you would provide sufficient info.

I would appreciate any info. Thanks

This looks like a new race on the calendar.I know they usually had the Voriberg race in the same area.So maybe some of those routes used.

DESCRIPTION OF ROUTE De Wildt nestles at the foot of the magnificent Magaliesburg Mountains and the route will take you through beautiful landscape scenery that will offer you a generous mix of single track, Jeep track, riverbeds and technical rocky mountain climbs.

Pleasure !

And i was as frustated as you - could not find any info ... here i am searching for something totally non related and i came across the flyer - go figure.

I was at "De Wildt" some years ago with a 4x4 challange, so i have no idea what awaits me now, let alone on the MTB. Reckon for safety i should stick to the 35km (also have some" beginner" riders coming along).

Let the fun begin !

I emailed for more details, and will post here if I get a reply.

Have entered for the 55 so long.

Got feedback, No route map or elevations etc. so all n all good fun. Hope to see some of you guys there on Saturday.

One thing I did not ask is whether you can ride with your SAS board?

I spoke to Patrick (?) a few weeks back. He said we will be issued with our own numbers, but the results will be sent to SASeeding.

I am getting increasingly nervous about this one. The area has some long sharp ascents, and I believe some technical rocky descents. Just gonna take it easy

Yeah, hope so. Entered my first half-monster this year. I stay in the area where VoriBerg was held. Had one attempt at Voriberg and broke my RD hanger. Shortly afterwards the race was cancelled. The main reason for me this weekend is to scour for some new training ground... LOL

I just spoke to Anton - one of the organisers. He is very enthusiastic about this race. It forms part of a series. They have built some pallet bridges due to rivercrossings that became deeper due to the recent rains - they must be very commited. A fair number of entries (about 170 online and numerous enquiries - more than 200 expected). According to him: some sandy patches, rivercrossing, "shade riding" and widely varying scenery - including game. It is in aid of the last remaining "plaasskool" in the old Transvaal. It certainly sounds worth a bash. I will try to convince the boss that a late change of plan is in order.
