Yeah, I know, it has been discussed. But no definitive answers has been given before. WHAT IS AVAILABLE IN TERMS OF BASIC HRM? I am interested in something that is basic for MTB use, but you would still be able to upload data and analyse.

I want to compare max HR vs incline, when am I in which zone, when am I over-exerting when, when should I hold back ... That sort of thing. I know Polar can't be the only reliable product available, just as Spez is not the only bike brand...

So it boils down to Polar vs Bryton vs Sigma vs ? Vs ? Which is the best value then? I don't want to spend more than R1500. And definitely not second-hand

Watch or bicycle unit?

They can be fairly expensive. Garmin Edge 500 (fairly basic unit) and HRM strap/unit was R2200 + R800 = R3000.

I'm sure there will be cheaper non-GPS HRM units.

I wouldn't want to use a watch for MTB'ing though.
