What are your guys thoughts on the merida big 300, special at cycle labs ...

Return my Makro one as too many problems

Its a nice bike, also check out Silverback (Sola 3 - R8500 and Sola 2 - R12000), they may be spec'ed better (Air fork which is lighter and more tune-able than coil forks, and bomb proof Shimano brakes). With your budget mentioned earlier, Cycle lab should be able to help you out with something very nice. A friend recently bought a bike from them and they added a bunch of extras (rather than discounting the bike).

You can also go around to other shops and see if they have some new 2012/2013 bikes in your size (Linden Cycles, Westdene Cycles, Eagle Canyon Cycles), there are some good deals on the older bikes.

Something else to consider is the wheels size. Your Macro bike is probably a 26" wheel. Everyone will probably tell you to go for a 29" wheel (I do agree), but there is very good deals on the older 26" wheeled bikes (I still ride one).

Happy bike hunting!

Hi Guys

Been trolling through the forum for a little while, great advise (advice) on here.

I am brand new to the world of cycling, got a bike from Makro(pls don't shoot me) to learn how to ride a bike (yes never rode a bike before), So at a stage where I am is riding around the complex each morning, learning to break (brake), haven't got the gears figured out yet.

I need some advise (advice) on getting a good bike, budget around 13K. what should I look for ? is it worthwhile getting something good now or rather keep the makro one till I can properly ride, hope to do some trips around the douglasdale area once I'm confident enough.

First bit of advice. Brush up on your spelling.

R13k is a generous budget for a first bike. Although you already have a bike comp, consider buying a decent helmet, shoes, clothes, light, floor pump etc and then spend the rest on something from the classifieds here. Enjoy the ride, but beware, it's addictive :-)

Edit: and a pair of glasses
