So as i have said in my welcome post and my fork advise post, my GF has a MTB bike and we want to ride places like Northern farms and other trails.

so one of the things im looking for is a taller seat post. a few bike shops have told me "its not worth it, no one does that, i bought the wrong bike, i should have got a MTB". but im still think tall seat post will allow me to ride trails. after a bit of searching i found i few ideas of what im looking for. what you guys think?

I used to run a dropper post (RS Reverb) on my 4X/jump bike. It later got moved onto my AM bike, but I would put another on, if/when I ind one at a bargain.

I know Super_mil currently runs a dropper (KS) on his little 4X/jump bike, and he has even done enduro races with it like that.

So definitely an option. What frame have you got? What is the seatpost diameter?

Dont listen to the bike shops. If its got two wheels you can ride it. Sure it might be better to get a xc/trail specific bike later on but just for casual riding for now this is 100%.

For the seatpost, you need to make sure that a big enough part of the post is inside the frame. Theres gonna be a limit indicator, make sure you dont extend beyond this or you might damage the frame.

I got a Giant STP. not sure of the post diameter. the current post is only 30.9mm on and i beam so i might have to change my seat to.

I have been thinking about a drop post but they seem a little pricey for me right now.

i really like the post on the yeti though

30.9mm is a good size. Plenty of dropper post options available. Yes you may have to get a new seat as KS is the only dropper brand I';ve seen that do I-beam saddles, and those particular KS posts are probably like hen's teeth.

But look at the Giant dropper post. very affordable. Maybe even more so than that Thomson layback on the Yeti.

Years ago I built up a Giant STP with gears and a long saddlepost as a play bike. I have a very long inseam so I actually had to customise a seatpost to be even longer than standard.

I rode Crater Cruise on it without any issues (100Km), and enjoyed the bike a lot until I traded it for a DH bike.
