Azza Posted June 21, 2014 Share Hi guysI have a 3 speed crank which i am now using with a single speed specific chainring. The chainring is posotioned where the middle chainring has allways been. Its a 32 tooth.Surely cross chaining is a problem when using the highest and lowest cogs at the back ? Or not ? Or even with a 1 by 10 or 1 by 11. Is cross chaining not a problem ? Thanks Edited June 21, 2014 by Azza
NotSoBigBen Posted June 21, 2014 Share I would imagine the 'middle' position would give the least possible cross chaining ..... But I'm just an IT guy and no bike mechanic ..... DeFconOK
DeFconOK Posted June 21, 2014 Share Yea try get the chain line correct near the middle of the cassette. But there's not much you can do to change it other than moving the chainring about or moving the BB which is not really a good idea. The middle ring is designed to use the full range of the cassette so it should be good.
NINER_boy Posted June 21, 2014 Share Yep, on the middle position the cross chaining will be the least. Also, there is always a respectable amount of "cross chaining", even on the 10 and 11x systems. Therefore the narrower chains to limit this as much as possible, or rather to fit as May gears into the space allowed. On your situation, the middle is the best suited position for the chainring.
