Bike lanes are there for a reason

Commuting into work this morning (Blouberg -> Town) I noticed 3 roadies, riding in the morning traffic, parallel to the bike lanes. What made this even worse was the fact that they started lane splitting because there wasnt enough shoulder (There is no shoulder on the road - thats why there is a bike lane). This makes all other cyclists look bad in the eyes of car users, especially when there is a purpose built lane right there...

 

Please guys, use the bike lanes like everyone else, if you are chasing strava times or if having to slow down to cross the pavements ticks you off, rather cycle in the other direction (up the west coast road) where there is plenty of shoulder and no pavements to cross..!
