Smaller chainring Shimano 685

Can anybody guide me on whether there is an after-market solution to my need of changing my 38 tooth outer chainring on my Shimano Slx m685 crankset. I need to fit a 36 ring in place of the 38 as the 38 provides too big a ratio for my old legs to fully utilize the cassette range. Shimano tell my LBS there is no option available. Ideally I would like to change my 24 for a 22 and go 22/36.

Go to another LBS, if it's a standard 104mm BCD then you can fit almost any one. You may have to file a few edges, as Shimano has done some sneaky thing in the past

Thanks FLOWTA> Bought the 9 speed M665 36 tooth chainring as you suggested to replace the 38 tooth ring. Fits perfectly onto my 10spd SLX. I now run a 24/36 front with 11/34 rear on a 650b. Brilliant! Changes smoothly, brings another cog on my cassette into play and allows me to stay on the big ring longer. Minor loss of top speed.

Considering moving to a 22 tooth inner and changing the cassette to 12/32 so I can get closer ratio spacing and save a bit on weight (smaller cogs and less chain).
