Paarl road route

Hi All,

My team (work) and I will be attending a teambuild in Paarl this weekend. Whilst there, we'd like to go out riding for about 50km or so. Could anyone please suggest a safe route for us to follow. We will be staying in the centre of Paarl  and would like to go riding between 6-8am on Saturday.

Thanks.

Hi. Most roads around Paarl are pretty safe to ride on. Doing the loop around the mountain is fairly nice - Past Fairview, R44 to Malmesbury 4-way (turn right) and back into Paarl.

Alternatively you could head out towards Franschhoek (30Km one way) or even make your way towards Bain's Kloof (29Km).

I'd suggest giving the stretch past Mbekweni (Jan van RIebeeck / R301) a miss... there have been one or two reports of failed attempted jackings.

Agree with K - avoid that one stretch.

Loop either way around the mountain is nice - about 40 k's. For an out-and-back you can do the Malmesbury road (R45) also.

Depending on how in the mood for climbing you are, either Bains as mentioned or up Du Toits. More trucks on Du Toits, I always went up there early when I did it... which may not be in the spirit of a team-building weekend! With Bains you have about a bit more narrow road, but both stunning rides.

For a 50k ride there's also an option of doing Lady Loch's little loop (you may want to shoot across the bridge and back to say you rode over a monument!) and then Voorpaardeberg. Just don't go through to the last turnoff, there's roadworks on the Landbouskool road (towards Windmeul) - take the first tar road (left), just after Sonop, if memory serves me right. I specifically added the Lady Loch loop to make up for those lost k's to the last turnoff...

Hope it helps!
