In Korea (my country), lots of cyclists use action camera and if a car drives pass very close to a cyclist, they report to police the photo of car's position. Hahaha then the car drive gets some penalties (money and point) from police.

I dont know I explain it well hahahha

Ps. Constantia neck.. omg.. every times at least once a car pass me like few cm from me... serious... :'( I hope I can use the side road..

I wish we were like that... but sadly in SA you dont go to prison for murder... a car passing you close will never get any penalties .. not even a slap on the wrist! Its a respect thing if you ask me...

Nice topic. I've been tempted to ask our MEC for traffic and safety (and general ineffectiveness) for some stats on people that have been caught transgressing this law, both motorists and cyclists, but deep down I already know the answer.

This is going to be one of those laws that we'll laugh about in a few year's time, much like the the Thai law forbidding you from stepping on money, or the Iowa law that forbids a man with a moustache from kissing a woman in public.

It amazes me how such a law can be passed - I'm all for the 1m provision, and against pretty much everything else contained in the law - with the complete and utter lack of awareness and enforcement of said laws. Why bother in the first place? When I get run over because a motorist didn't give me space, it's not going to make me feel that much better knowing that at least the law was on my side.

Sounds like a bunch of old guys in a gentleman's club with nothing to do all day think up these laws without any connection to reality. When even the PPA, the people standing up for the rights of cyclists, have their reservations.

Any and all publicity can only be a good thing, even if the MAMIL stereotype is reinforced.
