Shimano and SRAM Cassette change?

There is a great special at evobikes on the FRM 42T cog and 34T chainring combo for R1650

Question 1:

Is this a good set for my bike? 2013 Trek Superfly DS changed RD to medium cage Type 2 X0

Question 2:

The cassette I have is not compatible as it does not split up, HG62 Shimano, only 11 and 13 are separate.

Can I change the cassette with my mates Sram 1050 which does split, straight across? Will they work on the same hub?

Answers not on a postcard pls.

SRAM has a nice drivetrain compatibility chart on their website. It says your XO RD is not compatible with a 42t setup at the rear. But some here have managed to sort this out by fitting a longer "b" screw that allows the correct gear-to-jockey clearance to be obtained. You may have to do this mod to get your XO to play nicely with the 42t rear.

You may also have to lengthen or shorten (less likely) your chain by a link or two depending how many teeth you add at the rear and remove in the front compared to your current setup.

I don't see a 10 speed 42T cassette on their list at all?

I was wrong my RD is a long cage.

Yes that's my point. The XO RD is rated for up to 36t. There are other threads here where hubbers have had trouble getting the XO to shift up onto their 42t modified clusters because the cage fouls against the big cog. If you experience this it can be solved very simply by fitting a longer b screw that is used to increase sprocket-to-pulley distance.

Good luck with your conversion

In addition to what JXV has said (which is all correct), be aware of the fact that if your current Shimano cassette and your mate's SRAM cassette are at different levels of wear, your current chain may not mesh nicely with it and will skip around.

Overall advice: search for 1x10 threads, for example here: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/145497-is-going-1x10-really-worth-it/?do=findComment&comment=2490177

Our cassettes are of a similar age, 2500km, both look after our stuff and service and lube regularly. (The bikes not each other )

In any event I'm starting with a brand new XT chain.

Ok so here is another question.  I just ordered the new XTR M9000 1x11.  It has a 11-40 ratio on the cassette.  Can I use a Sram xx1 cassette on this?
