Need a new front wheel (29")

I managed to write off my front wheel yesterday  :(  So obviously I need a replacement...

I've got two options at the moment:

  • Rebuild front wheel (new rim)
Alex Rim ("EVO 2.0" /Tubeless ready / 400 g / have the same rim on my rear wheel)
Quoted ~ R1100 - but there might be some additional costs (new spokes, hub service etc.)
+ I'll have two matching rims again

  • Or buy a swanky, brand new wheel from CRC
    Easton Haven...
R1950 after import taxes and shipping

What do you guys think?

I do some XC / hardtail riding / Jonkers type riding.

If your hub is worth it, find a good wheel builder and rebuild the wheel with a Stans Crest rim. This is a good opportunity to save some weight on your front wheel where you'll feel it the most as the front wheel is suspended.

This way you save money, keep more of your cash in the local economy and will actually have a wheel in the near future (the post office is still on strike as far as I know).

From experience you need to multiply crc prices in pounds by roughly 23 to get to the rand value once all is paid, customs taxes shipping bank charges etc. i have ordered from them a few times and always check and add everything together afterwards. Gives me a better way to predict and compare prices.

I second the thought of a rebuild on existing hub, cannot go wrong with crest

If you are light I can give you a ztr crest rim that I have at home to build the front wheel.

You will then have odd front and rear wheels if that bugs you.

Let me know.
