Garmin ANT + speed and cadence sensor on a Trail bike?

My wife got me a nifty FR70 for my birthday, which came with the running pod.  Garmin sells a Cadence/Speed combo for bikes as well or a speed pod alone.

The cadence isn't really sensible for me on a trail bike for obvious reasons, but I'd like to pop the speed sensor on my trail bike since it does distance too and it's a nice tool to use.

The latest ones wrap around the front hub with a rubber band (I attach a review for reference http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2014/05/garmins-spd-cad-magnetless-sensors.html)

Has anyone done this on an AM/Trail bike and rode proper rough stuff with it (I want to put it on my Stumpy 29'er)?

I'm afraid it will get bounced off or killed by trail debris.  Would wrapping it with one ply of gorilla tape affect the sensor?

Cheers

Hi

I have owned many different Garmns over the years.

My advice is to let the watch use the GPS function for speed and distance.

Unless you training for the Olympics, this is more accurate enough for me.

Another top tip, don't wear the watch on your arm, but rather use a handle bar mount. The last time I wore one on my wrist, it got scratched by bushes etc.

My wife currently runs the setup above and has never had any issues, even with the odd tumble.

For a road bike, I would consider the speed / cadence sensor, but there again, not essential.

Hope that helps.

Enjoy....
