So...rumor has turned to fact...

I am not saying boikot Spez...I say petition to have our local boy Deon have the concept store...not some outsider heavy from GP land...

Yip, the reality is we live in an age of instant gratification. If I'm interested in a brand I want to go to a shop and see the different models in real life. Jack-of-all-trade Master-of-none stores battle with this. Concept stores aim to address this.

Agree on the "relaxed family vibe" though - and Deon definitely has that going. Great to go in there and shop and talk ***. :-)

Wonder what the story is here? Not being a Spez concept store robs you of priority access to stock, but I can't believe to the point where it disables your business. Perhaps they forced Deon to go concept and he resisted - it is apparently quite expensive. Would be interesting to understand the variables involved here.

Pity, I like the Spez brand. I originally decided between Rocky Mountain, Santa Cruz and Spez and the latter won from availability, support and Deon's location point of view...

I can't believe they wouldn't give Deon first option. Too expensive perhaps?

Deon has grown the SPEZ brand in the Durbanville area and if SPEZ drop him then there will be plenty peeps that are not going to happy. SPEZ needs to come onto this thread and make a statement

BUT ,Cyclefunatic is our local shop. So they(Spez) got the many LBS's to build their brand, and now they open concept stores to lock the LBS's out.

I heard Spez will open the concept store and just expect all the spez owners to just ditch Cyclefunatic and support them.

I dont think durbanville can sustain a concept store, honestly. Many many riders, for sure, but not so many Spez riders as in other parts. The Boerewors curtain seems to like Giant and Pyga and Momsen.

Exactly Tienie, #supportyourLBS

Spez have no qualm in closing out the LBS. Daggers out?

Karl, how can you state Spez is dropping him?

Have you considered it might be a mutual decision?

And really, why does Spez need to come here and explain themselves to the almighty Hub?

I for one, would love to know the real story. I heard that Spez will end your contract for repeated bad service. Not saying this is the case, instead of Spez, why not let Cyclefuantic give us the real story.

Rumour has it.....that SPEZ have plans to open concept store in STELLENBOSCH.

BMT, owned by Chris and Richard, who have built SPEZ in stellenbosch to what it is today may be facing the same drama that befell Deon.

Bmt is the best Spez shop in Western Cape, a concept store wont see a penny of mine. Rather buy another brand.

These Spez stores look great but you have no choice on products, they don't sell anything but Spez products, as a consumer you want the right to choose I like Maxxis Tyres  and conti for the road bike, but not at a Spez store, its Spez or nothing, there is something in everyone that naturally makes you rebel against this corporate mind set.

Its a bit of globalization, I am sure a business owner would also like to remain the boss, in the Spez Stable and especially once you have committed, they rule you.

Olympic cycles has been around for over 30 years im told, I believe they where not going to be bent over a barrel by the new bully on the block.

Brands come and go, and there are some great bands out there.

Agree Johny. PM you.

Spez is going to open up a 500m2 concept store in D/ville area. Location

unknown at this point. Seem it will be a corporate store run by a Spez corporate manager.

Deon is a smart operator. He will survive and I will still support him. He is planning a rebrand of the store with new bike brands. To date, he has not confirmed which brands yet.

Spez owners, the only thing he cannot service are the Brain shocks. Every other Spez bike out of warranty he would still be able to work on, roadbikes included. Afterall his macks are trained on Spez.
