Bertie Beukes Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 Hi, Can anyone please assist. I am 115kg looking to buy a Trek Superfly FS 9 with Bontrager Mustang Pro wheels. Will these wheels be strong enough to handle my weight XC/trail. If not, could I just replace the spokes to make the wheels stronger.
David Marshall Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 The strength is dependant on the number of spokes as well as the type of spoke. If they are the 32 hole version you may just get away with them as the rear at least has an offset spoke bed but I would say that you are over the limit. If they are the 28 hole I would look for other wheels. For a 29" wheel and over 100kg you should really look for 36 spokes and a strong rim - ZTR Flow or the like.
