I did the 69km last year.  Will do the 94km this year - though I wish I was as fit as 2 months ago.  It is a suprising race in many regards.  The field is surprisingly small but the route is surprisingly awesome.  You get to travel along the beach for large parts of the race all the way down the south coast.  Sadly the road surface is not great (not like the smooth M4 North) but it is easily rideable.  There are no road closures but there are marshalls along the way.  There is a drinks table at the turnaround point for the 69km race.  All in all worth a ride if you like road cycling.

Fast. Undulating with not too many hills. "The Wall" is an uphill close to the end, between Illovo and Winkelspruit, (which is so named by the runners as it comes at 34 km's into the South Coast marathon race). It is really not that bad on a bike (+- 1.3 km in length). I speak under correction, but the winning time in 2013 suggested speed to average at 45 km/h. Road condition is poor in places. The Toti crowd are superb hosts. Do not enter into a drinking contest with the locals. They can put it away and beer prices at Lords and Legends are some of the cheapest around. Easy one for me, 69 km only. I am following a program for Karoo to coast which involves a long ride on Saturday, the day before.

for now, weather looks good and the wind seems to be calm. gonna give the 94km a go, if I feel crap I will just turn around at the 69km mark

any Durbanites entered yet ?

Yip.  At least 6 - 8 of us from East Coast are doing it that I know of.  Road surface is quite rough and lots of rolling hills.  We can chat about it after the ride this weekend.

I was looking forward to an event, but sadly have to skip this. Totally forgot that I have a stag of a close mate on Saturday and really cannot skip that, and riding after a long night is definitely not an option. Next time...
